The Meta Tag Generator writes title tags or meta descriptions for your pages. It uses the pages that Perquery crawled and the prompts matched to each page.

Before you start

Run a crawl from Content Analysis. The tool lists only crawled pages.

In the sidebar, under Growth, click Meta Tag Generator.

5

The prompts matched to each page are used automatically. The run continues on the server. You can leave the page and open the result later from the History tab.

Length rules

  • Meta Title: 30 to 60 characters, with the brand name.
  • Meta Description: 120 to 160 characters, with the primary keyword early. The slider sets the target length in this range.

Read the result

The Generated meta data card shows how many pages received a proposal. The report has these parts:
  • A table with the page, the URL, the proposal and its character count. A ⚠ mark shows a proposal outside the length rules.
  • The pages without a proposal.
  • Guidance and the steps to apply the proposals.

Export the result

The result has two Export buttons:
  • The first Export button saves the report as Markdown (.md), Word (.doc) or PDF. The PDF option opens the print dialog of your browser.
  • The second Export button saves the table as CSV or Excel (.xlsx).

Put the tags on your site

  • Put each title proposal in the <title> element of the page, or in the title field of your CMS.
  • Put each description proposal in <meta name="description" content="…">, or in the description field of your CMS.

History

Click the History tab to see the stored runs. The table shows Date, Output, Pages, Generated, Failed and Status. Click a run to open its result.

Plan usage

Each page that receives a proposal counts against your plan’s allowance. See pricing.
