# llms.txt Checker & Generator

> Check the llms.txt file on your domain and generate a new one from the pages that Perquery crawled.

An `llms.txt` file tells AI engines which pages carry your main content. The **llms.txt Checker & Generator** checks the file on your domain and builds a new file for you.

## Check your live file

Open the tool. In the sidebar, under **Tools**, click **llms.txt Checker & Generator**.

The **Status check** card reads `https://<your domain>/llms.txt`. It shows **Found** or **Not found**, and one row for each check. Each row shows **PASS** or **FAIL**.

When a check passes, the row shows this text:

* **llms.txt is published**
* **The file starts with an H1 title**
* **A blockquote summary follows the title**
* **Content blocks are defined**
* **Sitemap is referenced**
* **Contact or licence details are present**

When a check fails, the row shows the opposite text, for example **llms.txt is missing**.

## Generate a file

> [!NOTE]
>
> The generator uses the pages that Perquery crawled. Run a crawl from [Content Analysis](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/analyze/content-analysis.md) first.

**1. Generate**

In the **Generator** card, click **Generate**.

**2. Review the file**

Read the generated file in the code block.

**3. Copy or download**

Click **Copy** to copy the text, or click **Download** to save it as `llms.txt`.

To build the file again, click **Regenerate**.

## What the file contains

* An H1 title with your brand name.
* A blockquote summary. Perquery uses the description of your home page.
* Your crawled pages, grouped by page format. Each entry has a link and the page description.
* A sitemap section, only when your `robots.txt` declares a sitemap.
* A contact section, only when your site has a contact page.

## Put the file on your site

Upload the file to the root of your domain, so that it opens at `https://<your domain>/llms.txt`. Then open the tool again and examine the **Status check**.

## Measure the change

After you publish the file, click **Add to Impact Tracking**. The measurement starts on the go-live date. See [Impact Tracking](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/act/impact-tracking.md).

## Plan usage

The check and the generator do not count against your plan's allowance.
