# Content Brief Generator

> Plan a page before you write it: the headline, the outline, the questions, the keywords and the length.

The **Content Brief Generator** makes a plan for one page. The plan uses your tracked prompt, its competitors and its keywords. You write the page from the plan.

## Before you start

* Add [prompts](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/monitor/prompts.md). A brief without a tracked prompt is a generic outline.
* For a content kind that needs a target page, run a crawl from [Content Analysis](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/analyze/content-analysis.md) first.
* Optional: add [personas](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/monitor/personas.md) to write for one audience.

## Generate a brief

**1. Open the tool**

In the sidebar, under **Growth**, click **Content Brief Generator**.

**2. Select a content kind**

Click one of the content kind cards. Each card shows the output formats of the kind.

**3. Select a prompt or type a topic**

In **Target prompt**, select a tracked prompt. If you do not use a tracked prompt, select **No tracked prompt — type a topic instead** and type a **Topic**.

**4. Select a target page**

In **Target page**, select a crawled page, or keep **New page — no target**. Some kinds show **Target page (required for this kind)**.

**5. Add the optional inputs**

Select a **Persona**. Type **Extra keywords**, separated by commas. Type a URL in **Extra competitor pages** and click **Add**.

**6. Generate**

Click **Generate brief**.

Perquery adds the keywords matched to the page and the pages that already win the prompt. You do not have to type them.

## What the brief contains

The top of the brief shows its headline and a summary line with the kind, the version and the target word count.

| Section | Content |
| - | - |
| Checks | The checks that the brief passed or failed, for example **H1 keyword** |
| **Keywords** | The keywords to use on the page |
| **Outline** | Each heading with its level, its target word count and its talking points |
| **FAQ questions** | The questions that the page must answer |
| **Images** | The image positions with their alt text |
| **Content gaps** | Each **Gap** with its **Evidence** and its **Opportunity** |
| **Metadata** | The **Title**, the **Description** and the **Slug** of the page |
| **Competitor pages** | The competitor pages that the brief used |

## Export the brief

Click **Export as Markdown**. Perquery downloads the brief as a `.md` file. Give the file to your writer or put it in your editor.

## Versions and history

* Click the **History** tab to see all stored briefs. The table shows **Brief**, **Kind**, **Version** and **Date**.
* Open a brief to see it again. **Versions of this brief** lists every stored version of the same kind and subject, newest first.
* When you generate a brief again for the same kind and subject, Perquery stores it as the next version.

## Measure the page

After you publish the page, click **Add to Impact Tracking**. The measurement starts on the go-live date. See [Impact Tracking](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/act/impact-tracking.md).

## Plan usage

Each stored brief counts against your plan's allowance. When the allowance is used up, the tool shows **Your plan's brief allowance for this period is used up.** See [pricing](https://perquery.ai/en/pricing).
