# Profile and security

> Sign in, change your name and password, end sessions and set up two-step sign-in.

Your profile and your security settings belong to you as a person. They do not change with the site that you work on.

Open the user menu in the top bar to find them. The menu shows your initials and your name.

## Sign in

Perquery uses your email address and a password to sign you in.

**1. Open the sign-in page**

Go to the Perquery app.

**2. Enter your details**

Enter your **Email** and your **Password**.

**3. Sign in**

Click **Sign in**.

When two-step sign-in is on, Perquery then asks for a code. See [Sign in with two-step sign-in](#sign-in-with-two-step-sign-in).

### Create an account

**1. Open the sign-up page**

On the sign-in page, click **Create account**.

**2. Enter your details**

Enter your **First name**, **Last name**, **Work email** and **Password**. The company or agency name is optional.

**3. Submit the form**

Click **Get started free**.

**4. Confirm your email address**

Open the email from Perquery. Open the link and click **Confirm email address**. The link works for 3 days.

A new account gets its own organization. You get the owner role of that organization. See [Roles and permissions](https://docs.perquery.ai/en/account/roles-and-permissions.md).

### Reset a forgotten password

**1. Request a link**

On the sign-in page, click **Forgot password?**. Enter your email and click **Send reset link**.

**2. Open the link**

Open the email. The link works for 10 minutes and only one time.

**3. Choose a new password**

Enter the new password two times. Click **Reset password**.

If the link does not work, click **Request a new link**.

## Change your name

**1. Open your profile**

In the user menu, click **Profile**.

**2. Edit the name**

In **Account info**, change **First name** or **Last name**.

**3. Save**

Click **Save changes**.

You cannot change your email address on this page. It is your sign-in address.

## Change your password

> [!WARNING]
>
> When you change your password, Perquery signs you out on all other devices.

**1. Open your profile**

In the user menu, click **Profile**.

**2. Enter the passwords**

In **Change password**, enter your **Current password**. Enter the **New password** and **Repeat new password**.

**3. Save**

Click **Update password**.

A password must have at least 8 characters. Perquery refuses these passwords:

* A password that is very common.
* A password that is too close to your name or your email address.
* A password that has only numbers.

## End sessions

**Active sessions** on the **Profile** page shows each device that is signed in to your account. **This device** marks the device that you use now.

* To end one session, click **Sign out** next to it.
* To end all sessions except this device, click **Sign out all others**. Then click **Yes, sign out**.

## Set up two-step sign-in

Two-step sign-in adds a second step after your password. You need an authenticator app on your phone.

**1. Open Security**

In the user menu, click **Security**.

**2. Start the setup**

Click **Set up two-step sign-in**.

**3. Add Perquery to your app**

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. You can also type the **Setup key** into the app.

**4. Confirm**

Enter the **Code from the app** and **Your password**. Click **Confirm**.

**5. Keep the recovery codes**

Perquery shows your **Recovery codes**. Click **Copy codes** and keep them in a safe place.

>
> Perquery shows the recovery codes only one time. Each code lets you sign in one time when you do not have your phone.

The **Security** page shows how many recovery codes you have left.

### Sign in with two-step sign-in

**1. Sign in with your password**

Enter your email and password on the sign-in page.

**2. Enter the code**

Enter the **Code from the app**. Click **Continue**.

If you do not have your phone, click **Use a recovery code instead**. Then enter a **Recovery code**.

### Get new recovery codes

**1. Open Security**

In the user menu, click **Security**.

**2. Enter a code**

Enter the **Code from the app**.

**3. Issue new codes**

Click **Issue new recovery codes**. Copy the new codes and keep them in a safe place.

### Turn off two-step sign-in

> [!WARNING]
>
> After you turn it off, sign-in asks only for your password.

**1. Open Security**

In the user menu, click **Security**.

**2. Enter a code**

Enter the **Code from the app** above **Turn off two-step sign-in**.

**3. Turn it off**

Click **Turn off two-step sign-in**.
